New Jersey, also known as the Garden State is filled with beaches, exciting boardwalks, rich history and acres upon acres of fresh fruit and vegetable gardens. Most of the towns and cities of New Jersey are only a bus or train ride away from New York City.

1. Jersey Shore


The Jersey Shore is a 130-mile scenic Atlantic coastline with seaside towns, legendary boardwalks, and big waves for surfing. Some of the best surfing beaches are located from Sandy Hook to Cape May, NJ. The Jersey Shore provides plenty of surfing opportunities for beginner to advanced surfers year-round, but the best time to surf is in the Fall.

Cape May is 157 miles from New York City and 93 miles from Philadelphia.

No trip to Jersey Shore is complete without a walk along one of its legendary boardwalks. Check out Jenkinson Boardwalk, Casino Pier, and Morey’s Piers. Get the boardwalk treats like ice-cream, pretzels, and fried Oreos.

Apples, cranberries, broccoli, carrots, spinach, turnips, pumpkins, and peppers are available during Fall (September to November).

Wine enthusiasts can visit one of the many wine trails in the state - Jersey Shore Wine Trail, Cape May Wine Trail, Vintage North Wine Trail, Two Bridges Wine Trail and Pinelands Reserve Wine Trail.

3. Historic Sites


History enthusiasts can visit the many historic sites in New Jersey. The Liberty State Park in Jersey City is only six miles from New York City. Enjoy the New York City skyline from Jersey City or take the ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Another option is to cycle along the scenic Hudson River paths or join a kayak tour.

4. Gardens of New Jersey
