New York City Shopping Guide

You can “shop till you drop” in New York City! Whether you are looking for a one of a kind vintage dress or cheap T-shirts with the “I Love NY” print and a price tag of “3 for $10” or off season designer clothes for one third of its original price- New York City has them all. Even those self declared non-shoppers would find a thing or two like a camera from B&H or a ring from Tiffany&Co.

One: Century 21
Century 21 has two locations in New York City. It is the ultimate shopper’s paradise and fashion bargain hunters’ heaven. Century 21 has served NYC locals and tourists for over 50 years with the biggest names in fashion at up to 65% off of retail price.

The stores are always stocked with new arrivals and you may never find the same piece the day after. With names like Marc Jacobs, Cartier, Juicy Couture, Kenneth Cole and more under one roof, Century 21 can be your only shopping stop if you are pressed for time.

Two: Uniqlo
Uniqlo is a Japanese company that is changing the world. According to the founder, Tadashi Yanai, “UNIQLO clothes are MADE FOR ALL–highly finished elements of style in clothes that suit your values wherever you live. This unique concept of clothes sets us apart from apparel companies whose sole purpose is the pursuit of fashion trends.”

They are the Japanese version of the Swedish clothing giant, H&M. Uniqlo sells casual and business casual pants, shirts, dresses, accessories and jackets for men and women of all ages.

Three: Macy’s Herald Square
Known as the largest shopping mall in the world, Macy’s at 34th Street Herald Square has a special Macy’s Visitor Savings Pass good for 10% off thousands of items throughout the store. Their visitor center is on the Mezzanine Floor. If you can’t carry all your purchase, Macy’s will ship to over 100 countries around the world.

You will need a map to walk through 11 floors and when you are hungry, Macy’s Stella Trattoria and Bar serves gourmet Italian food.

Four: B&H
The world’s largest camera and video discount superstore is located on an entire block in New York City on 34th Street at Ninth Avenue. B&H has over 245,000 products. The company has 35 years of experience serving visitors from all over the world in New York City.

If you are a photographer, do not miss B&H for their extensive selections of merchandise related to photography, videography, audio technology, computing and accessories.

Five: H&M
The first H&M was opened in 1947 in Västerås, Sweden. H&M has a strong presence in New York City with huge billboards on Times Square and 34th Street. H&M stores may be in your neighborhood but the megastore in Times Square with 42,000 square feet is an experience not to be missed.

The H&M in Times Square is all about using technology with charging station, interactive mannequins, 7,000 square feet of LED screens and a 53-foot glitter wall.

Six: ToysRUs
If you like savings and coupons, make sure you pick up a NYC’s Original City Guide book which has a $5 coupon for purchase of $25 or more, at any of the two ToysRUs’ locations. ToysRUs Times Square has three floors filled with all candies, electronic games and toys that you may not find in your local ToysRUs.

The store provides free personal shopping service for guests who have limited time. All you need to do is call them and arrange for their personal service. While you are there try the indoor 60-foot Ferris wheel and check out the life sized Barbie’s house.

Seven: Apple Store
If you are an Apple fan stop by at the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue NYC at any time. The store is open 24-hours a day and 365 days a year – it is the store that “never stops!” This unique store with a 32-foot glass square cube has organized store events and workshops throughout the year.

Eight: Illisa’s Vintage Lingerie
Looking for vintage lingerie and don’t know where to find them? Illisa’s Vintage Lingerie may have the exact size and style for you. This tiny store has corsets, nightgowns, slips and jewelry too. The price tag is not for bargain hunters but it is worth a trip if you are hunting for a one of a kind gift.

Nine: Chinatown
If you like haggling and a different cultural experience, Chinatown offers cheap “Made in China” souvenirs, unique chopsticks, designer sunglasses and prescription glasses seven days a week.

If you like chopsticks, YunHong Chopsticks on 50 Mott St has hundreds of designs to choose from. This store made chopsticks for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.

Ten: Tiffany & Co.
Tiffany & Co.’s flagship store on Fifth Avenue has been the most famous store in New York City since October 21, 1940. Is it time to bring back the blue box?
